The pair controlled the race for extended periods, building a commanding lead of over 20 seconds before a lengthy penultimate pit stop, caused by a delayed right-front brake change, threatened to derail their hopes of victory.\r\n\r\nRejoining almost 30 seconds behind the leader, Kostecki faced an enormous challenge to recover the lost ground. However, a strategic advantage gained through the extended stop allowed the team to delay its final fuel stop until lap 150, setting up a thrilling charge to the finish.\r\n\r\nReturning to the circuit in fourth position, 18 seconds off the lead, Kostecki immediately went on the attack, twice breaking the lap record as he rapidly closed the gap to the cars ahead. A late Safety Car then brought the field together, setting the stage for a dramatic three-lap sprint to the chequered flag.\r\n\r\nAfter moving into second position, Kostecki began hunting down race leader Anton De Pasquale. In an extraordinary final-lap twist, De Pasquale’s Camaro ran out of fuel, allowing Kostecki to sweep into the lead on Mountain Straight and secure a famous Bathurst victory by just 1.1844 seconds.\r\n\r\nThe result marked a second Bathurst 1000 triumph for both Kostecki and Hazelwood, following their victory together in 2024, and delivered Dick Johnson Racing its fifth win in the iconic endurance race.
